Fall Sac-Con

For those that don’t know, Sac-Con is a small anime/toy/comic convention in Sacramento occuring once per season that features a wide array of guests in the realm of comics, art, anime and writers. As it stands, it’s a throwback to how comic conventions used to be before media and television influenced the shows. Media and movies are great, but it’s nice to get back to the roots of what comic conventions are all about, and the Sac-Con is a great representation of its once humble beginnings. These shows are always fun and more family-oriented than your larger conventions, and the price point is always a refreshing relief.

 

This year, Sac-Con was a 2-day show. I’m guessing they decided to try and expand the show as more guests were booked, but the show works better as a one-day event. For prior shows, there were lines wrapping around the block to get in, but this time around, the door registration line barely went 50 people deep... and I arrived shortly after opening.
 

In the game room, they had PS3 Injustice up and running for competition.

...and the Yu-gi-oh tournament was up and running.

This time around, I was only in attendance to check out some of the vendors tables, get re-acquainted with Yugioh (since I hadn't played since June) and to see Phil LaMarr, who is the voice behind Hermes from Futurama, Virgil Hawkins from Static Shock, Samurai Jack and John Stewart from the Justice League/Unlimited series, among many others. The panel was loads of fun and informative. I recorded a few video clips, but wasn’t prepared and didn’t bring my tripod. I regret not capturing Phil recite the Green Lantern oath in its entirety. Please excuse the poor, blurry quality.

 

 

 

The good thing was, I did capture "Once a Green Lantern, always a Green Lantern!"

After the panel, Phil was doing a signing, so I got him to sign my Justice League Green Lantern action figures, since his voice was mostly responsible for bringing the character to life.

 

Not only did I get that, I got a photo with him, all for the exhilarating price of FREE!

 

 

In addition to the animated questions, there were a plethora of Pulp Fiction questions, since he played Marvin, the guy famously known for getting his brains blown out in the back seat of a Cadillac. He did tell us what was REALLY in that case... and I'm not sharing. :D

Overall, it was another great show, but these shows are better geared for being one-day shows, as opposed to two. As a one-day show, the attendance would have probably been much better. Still, a good time was had by all.
